Technical Assistance
During a regular service call, a Bearing & Transmission service representative was discussing general plant performance with a customer. The customer mentioned in passing that a belt conveyor transfer point was costing the customer money. The customer went on to described how the elevation change at the transfer point was more than ten feet which was enough to damage product as it passed through. This resulted in product being broken-up from impact at the bottom of the transfer chute and needing to be reprocessed. The customer estimated that the re-circulating load of damaged product cost the company approximately $100,000 annually.
The Bearing & Transmission service representative offered to get the technical services group involved. After reviewing the current set up of the application, the technical services group designed a chute to install at the conveyor transfer point that would allow product to make a controlled descent. This proposed solution would lessen the impact at the bottom of the transfer point and thus, prevent product damage.
The customer reviewed the proposed concept drawings and agreed that this would be an effective solution. Bearing & Transmission fabricated the new design and delivered it to the customer to be installed.
In follow-up service calls the customer expressed their satisfaction with the new design. The customer explained how the new setup has performed to their expectations and continues to save them money on an on-going basis.
In this example the customer experienced an on-going hard cost DVA savings resulting from less product being damaged and needing to be re-circulated. Assuming damaged product was lessened by only half, the customer would save $50,000 / year.
